Then Daniel went in, and desired [01156] of the king that he would give him time, and that he would shew the king the interpretation.

That they would desire [01156] mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired [01156] of thee : for thou hast now made known unto us the king's matter.

Then Daniel requested [01156] of the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon : but Daniel sat in the gate of the king.

At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought [01156] unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me.

Then the presidents and princes sought [01156] to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask [01156] a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying [01156] and making supplication before his God.

Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king's decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask [01156] a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.

Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh [01156] his petition three times a day.

I came near unto one of them that stood by, and asked [01156] him the truth of all this. So he told me, and made me know the interpretation of the things.
