(See on Rev 17:4).

stones . . . pearls--Greek, "stone . . . pearl."

fine linen--A, B, and C read Greek, "bussinou" for "bussou," that is, "fine linen manufacture" [ALFORD]. The manufacture for which Egypt (the type of the apostate Church, Rev 11:8) was famed. Contrast "the fine linen" (Eze 16:10) put on Israel, and on the New Testament Church (Rev 19:8), the Bride, by God (Psa 132:9).

thyine wood--the citrus of the Romans: probably the cypressus thyoyides, or the thuia articulata. "Citron wood" [ALFORD]. A sweet-smelling tree of Cyrene in Lybia, used for incense.

all manner vessels--Greek, "every vessel," or "furniture."

9 Let thy priests [03548] be clothed [03847] with righteousness [06664]; and let thy saints [02623] shout for joy [07442].
8 And [2532] to her [846] was granted [1325] that [2443] she should be arrayed [4016] in fine linen [1039], clean [2513] and [2532] white [2986]: for [1063] the fine linen [1039] is [2076] the righteousness [1345] of saints [40].
10 I clothed [03847] thee also with broidered work [07553], and shod [05274] thee with badgers' skin [08476], and I girded [02280] thee about with fine linen [08336], and I covered [03680] thee with silk [04897].
8 And [2532] their [846] dead bodies [4430] shall lie in [1909] the street [4113] of the great [3173] city [4172], which [3748] spiritually [4153] is called [2564] Sodom [4670] and [2532] Egypt [125], where [3699] also [2532] our [2257] Lord [2962] was crucified [4717].
4 And [2532] the woman [1135] was [2258] arrayed [4016] in purple [4209] and [2532] scarlet colour [2847], and [2532] decked [5558] with gold [5557] and [2532] precious [5093] stones [3037] and [2532] pearls [3135], having [2192] a golden [5552] cup [4221] in [1722] her [846] hand [5495] full of [1073] abominations [946] and [2532] filthiness [168] of her [846] fornication [4202]:
3 So [2532] he carried [667] me [3165] away [667] in [1722] the spirit [4151] into [1519] the wilderness [2048]: and [2532] I saw [1492] a woman [1135] sit [2521] upon [1909] a scarlet coloured [2847] beast [2342], full of [1073] names [3686] of blasphemy [988], having [2192] seven [2033] heads [2776] and [2532] ten [1176] horns [2768].
19 [1161] There was [2258] a certain [5100] rich [4145] man [444], which [2532] was clothed [1737] in purple [4209] and [2532] fine linen [1040], and fared [2165] sumptuously [2988] every [2596] day [2250]:
19 [1161] There was [2258] a certain [5100] rich [4145] man [444], which [2532] was clothed [1737] in purple [4209] and [2532] fine linen [1040], and fared [2165] sumptuously [2988] every [2596] day [2250]:
19 [1161] There was [2258] a certain [5100] rich [4145] man [444], which [2532] was clothed [1737] in purple [4209] and [2532] fine linen [1040], and fared [2165] sumptuously [2988] every [2596] day [2250]:
10 And the priest [03548] shall put [03847] on his linen [0906] garment [04055], and his linen [0906] breeches [04370] shall he put [03847] upon his flesh [01320], and take up [07311] the ashes [01880] which the fire [0784] hath consumed [0398] with the burnt offering [05930] on the altar [04196], and he shall put [07760] them beside [0681] the altar [04196].
42 And thou shalt make [06213] them linen [0906] breeches [04370] to cover [03680] their nakedness [01320] [06172]; from the loins [04975] even unto the thighs [03409] they shall reach:
9 Moreover they that work [05647] in fine [08305] flax [06593], and they that weave [0707] networks [02355], shall be confounded [0954].
46 Who [3739], when he had found [2147] one [1520] pearl [3135] of great price [4186], went [565] and sold [4097] all [3956] that [3745] he had [2192], and [2532] bought [59] it [846].
6 Give [1325] not [3361] that which [3588] is holy [40] unto the dogs [2965], neither [3366] cast [906] ye your [5216] pearls [3135] before [1715] swine [5519], lest [3379] they trample [2662] them [846] under [1722] their [846] feet [4228], and [2532] turn again [4762] and rend [4486] you [5209].
15 And I will smite [05221] the winter [02779] house [01004] with the summer [07019] house [01004]; and the houses [01004] of ivory [08127] shall perish [06], and the great [07227] houses [01004] shall have an end [05486], saith [05002] the LORD [03068].
8 All thy garments [0899] smell of myrrh [04753], and aloes [0174], and cassia [07102], out of the ivory [08127] palaces [01964], whereby [04482] they have made thee glad [08055].
39 Now the rest [03499] of the acts [01697] of Ahab [0256], and all that he did [06213], and the ivory [08127] house [01004] which he made [01129], and all the cities [05892] that he built [01129], are they not written [03789] in the book [05612] of the chronicles [01697] [03117] of the kings [04428] of Israel [03478]?
18 Moreover the king [04428] made [06213] a great [01419] throne [03678] of ivory [08127], and overlaid [06823] it with the best [06338] gold [02091].
22 For the king [04428] had at sea [03220] a navy [0590] of Tharshish [08659] with the navy [0590] of Hiram [02438]: once [0259] in three [07969] years [08141] came [0935] the navy [0590] of Tharshish [08659], bringing [05375] gold [02091], and silver [03701], ivory [08143], and apes [06971], and peacocks [08500].
17 Which [3739] when they had taken up [142], they used [5530] helps [996], undergirding [5269] the ship [4143]; and [5037], fearing [5399] lest [3361] they should fall [1601] into [1519] the quicksands [4950], strake [5465] sail [4632], and so [3779] were driven [5342].
27 No man [3762] can [3756] [1410] enter [1525] into [1519] a strong man's [2478] house [3614], and spoil [1283] his [846] goods [4632], except [3362] he will [1210] first [4412] bind [1210] the strong man [2478]; and [2532] then [5119] he will spoil [1283] his [846] house [3614].
29 Or [2228] else how [4459] can [1410] one [5100] enter [1525] into [1519] a strong man's [2478] house [3614], and [2532] spoil [1283] his [846] goods [4632], except [3362] he first [4412] bind [1210] the strong man [2478]? and [2532] then [5119] he will spoil [1283] his [846] house [3614].
15 But [1161] the Lord [2962] said [2036] unto [4314] him [846], Go thy way [4198]: for [3754] he [3778] is [2076] a chosen [1589] vessel [4632] unto me [3427], to bear [941] my [3450] name [3686] before [1799] the Gentiles [1484], and [2532] kings [935], and [5037] the children [5207] of Israel [2474]:
7 Likewise [3668], ye husbands [435], dwell with [4924] them according to [2596] knowledge [1108], giving [632] honour [5092] unto the wife [1134], as [5613] unto the weaker [772] vessel [4632], and [2532] as [5613] being heirs together [4789] of the grace [5485] of life [2222]; that [1519] your [5216] prayers [4335] be [1581] not [3361] hindered [1581].
6 And [1161] the chief priests [749] took [2983] the silver pieces [694], and said [2036], It is [1832] not [3756] lawful [1832] for to put [906] them [846] into [1519] the treasury [2878], because [1893] it is [2076] the price [5092] of blood [129].
