Here begins the second division of the prophecy. Lest the covenant people should abandon their distinctive hopes and amalgamate with the surrounding heathen, He tells them that, as the wilderness journey from Egypt was made subservient to discipline and also to the taking from among them the rebellious, so a severe discipline (such as the Jews are now for long actually undergoing) should be administered to them during the next exodus for the same purpose (Eze 20:38), and so to prepare them for the restored possession of their land (Hos 2:14-15). This was only partially fulfilled before, and at the return from Babylon: its full and final accomplishment is future.
with a mighty hand, . . . will I rule over you--I will assert My right over you in spite of your resistance (Eze 20:32), as a master would in the case of his slave, and I will not let you be wrested from Me, because of My regard to My covenant. |
32 And that which cometh [05927] into your mind [07307] shall not be at all, that ye say [0559], We will be [01961] as the heathen [01471], as the families [04940] of the countries [0776], to serve [08334] wood [06086] and stone [068].
14 Therefore, behold, I will allure [06601] her, and bring [03212] her into the wilderness [04057], and speak [01696] comfortably [03820] unto her.
15 And I will give [05414] her her vineyards [03754] from thence, and the valley [06010] of Achor [05911] for a door [06607] of hope [08615]: and she shall sing [06030] there, as in the days [03117] of her youth [05271], and as in the day [03117] when she came up [05927] out of the land [0776] of Egypt [04714].
38 And I will purge out [01305] from among you the rebels [04775], and them that transgress [06586] against me: I will bring them forth [03318] out of the country [0776] where they sojourn [04033], and they shall not enter [0935] into the land [0127] of Israel [03478]: and ye shall know [03045] that I am the LORD [03068].
