abode--rather, "sitting down" (Psa 139:2). The expressions here describe a man's whole course of life (Deu 6:7; Deu 28:6; Kg1 3:7; Psa 121:8). There is also a special reference to Sennacherib's first being at home, then going forth against Judah and Egypt, and raging against Jehovah (Isa 37:4).

4 It may be the LORD [03068] thy God [0430] will hear [08085] the words [01697] of Rabshakeh [07262], whom the king [04428] of Assyria [0804] his master [0113] hath sent [07971] to reproach [02778] the living [02416] God [0430], and will reprove [03198] the words [01697] which the LORD [03068] thy God [0430] hath heard [08085]: wherefore lift up [05375] thy prayer [08605] for the remnant [07611] that is left [04672].
8 The LORD [03068] shall preserve [08104] thy going out [03318] and thy coming in [0935] from this time forth, and even for [05704] evermore [05769].
7 And now, O LORD [03068] my God [0430], thou hast made thy servant [05650] king [04427] instead of David [01732] my father [01]: and I am but a little [06996] child [05288]: I know [03045] not how to go out [03318] or come in [0935].
6 Blessed [01288] shalt thou be when thou comest in [0935], and blessed [01288] shalt thou be when thou goest out [03318].
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently [08150] unto thy children [01121], and shalt talk [01696] of them when thou sittest [03427] in thine house [01004], and when thou walkest [03212] by the way [01870], and when thou liest down [07901], and when thou risest up [06965].
2 Thou knowest [03045] my downsitting [03427] and mine uprising [06965], thou understandest [0995] my thought [07454] afar off [07350].
29 Because thy rage [07264] against me, and thy tumult [07600], is come up [05927] into mine ears [0241], therefore will I put [07760] my hook [02397] in thy nose [0639], and my bridle [04964] in thy lips [08193], and I will turn thee back [07725] by the way [01870] by which thou camest [0935].
5 O [01945] Assyrian [0804], the rod [07626] of mine anger [0639], and the staff [04294] in their hand [03027] is mine indignation [02195].
6 I will send [07971] him against an hypocritical [02611] nation [01471], and against the people [05971] of my wrath [05678] will I give him a charge [06680], to take [07997] the spoil [07998], and to take [0962] the prey [0957], and to tread them down [07760] [04823] like the mire [02563] of the streets [02351].
7 Howbeit he meaneth [01819] not so, neither doth his heart [03824] think [02803] so; but it is in his heart [03824] to destroy [08045] and cut off [03772] nations [01471] not a few [04592].
4 And I will turn thee back [07725], and put [05414] hooks [02397] into thy jaws [03895], and I will bring thee forth [03318], and all thine army [02428], horses [05483] and horsemen [06571], all of them clothed [03847] with all sorts [04358] of armour, even a great [07227] company [06951] with bucklers [06793] and shields [04043], all of them handling [08610] swords [02719]:
4 Our soul [05315] is exceedingly [07227] filled [07646] with the scorning [03933] of those that are at ease [07600], and with the contempt [0937] of the proud [03238] [01343] [01349].
12 Wherefore thus saith [0559] the Holy One [06918] of Israel [03478], Because ye despise [03988] this word [01697], and trust [0982] in oppression [06233] and perverseness [03868], and stay [08172] thereon:
8 The LORD [03068] shall preserve [08104] thy going out [03318] and thy coming in [0935] from this time forth, and even for [05704] evermore [05769].
2 Thou knowest [03045] my downsitting [03427] and mine uprising [06965], thou understandest [0995] my thought [07454] afar off [07350].
