turned . . . captivity--proverbial for restored, or amply indemnified him for all he had lost (Eze 16:53; Psa 14:7; Hos 6:11). Thus the future vindication of man, body and soul, against Satan (Job 1:9-12), at the resurrection (Job 19:25-27), has its earnest and adumbration in the temporal vindication of Job at last by Jehovah in person.

twice--so to the afflicted literal and spiritual Jerusalem (Isa 40:2; Isa 60:7; Isa 61:7; Zac 9:12). As in Job's case, so in that of Jesus Christ, the glorious recompense follows the "intercession" for enemies (Isa 53:12).

12 Therefore will I divide [02505] him a portion with the great [07227], and he shall divide [02505] the spoil [07998] with the strong [06099]; because he hath poured out [06168] his soul [05315] unto death [04194]: and he was numbered [04487] with the transgressors [06586]; and he bare [05375] the sin [02399] of many [07227], and made intercession [06293] for the transgressors [06586].
12 Turn [07725] you to the strong hold [01225], ye prisoners [0615] of hope [08615]: even to day [03117] do I declare [05046] that I will render [07725] double [04932] unto thee;
7 For your shame [01322] ye shall have double [04932]; and for confusion [03639] they shall rejoice [07442] in their portion [02506]: therefore in their land [0776] they shall possess [03423] the double [04932]: everlasting [05769] joy [08057] shall be unto them.
7 All the flocks [06629] of Kedar [06938] shall be gathered together [06908] unto thee, the rams [0352] of Nebaioth [05032] shall minister [08334] unto thee: they shall come up [05927] with acceptance [07522] on mine altar [04196], and I will glorify [06286] the house [01004] of my glory [08597].
2 Speak [01696] ye comfortably [03820] to Jerusalem [03389], and cry [07121] unto her, that her warfare [06635] is accomplished [04390], that her iniquity [05771] is pardoned [07521]: for she hath received [03947] of the LORD'S [03068] hand [03027] double [03718] for all her sins [02403].
25 For I know [03045] that my redeemer [01350] liveth [02416], and that he shall stand [06965] at the latter [0314] day upon the earth [06083]:
26 And though after [0310] my skin [05785] worms destroy [05362] this body, yet in my flesh [01320] shall I see [02372] God [0433]:
27 Whom I shall see [02372] for myself, and mine eyes [05869] shall behold [07200], and not another [02114]; though my reins [03629] be consumed [03615] within [02436] me.
9 Then Satan [07854] answered [06030] the LORD [03068], and said [0559], Doth Job [0347] fear [03372] God [0430] for nought [02600]?
10 Hast not thou made an hedge [07753] about him, and about [01157] his house [01004], and about all that he hath on every side [05439]? thou hast blessed [01288] the work [04639] of his hands [03027], and his substance [04735] is increased [06555] in the land [0776].
11 But [0199] put forth [07971] thine hand [03027] now, and touch [05060] all that he hath, and he will curse [01288] [03808] thee to thy face [06440].
12 And the LORD [03068] said [0559] unto Satan [07854], Behold, all that he hath is in thy power [03027]; only upon himself put not forth [07971] thine hand [03027]. So Satan [07854] went forth [03318] from the presence [06440] of the LORD [03068].
11 Also, O Judah [03063], he hath set [07896] an harvest [07105] for thee, when I returned [07725] the captivity [07622] of my people [05971].
7 Oh that [05414] the salvation [03444] of Israel [03478] were come out of Zion [06726]! when the LORD [03068] bringeth back [07725] the captivity [07622] of his people [05971], Jacob [03290] shall rejoice [01523], and Israel [03478] shall be glad [08055].
53 When I shall bring again [07725] their captivity [07622] [07622], the captivity [07622] [07622] of Sodom [05467] and her daughters [01323], and the captivity [07622] [07622] of Samaria [08111] and her daughters [01323], then will I bring again the captivity [07622] [07622] of thy captives [07622] in the midst [08432] of them:
7 For your shame [01322] ye shall have double [04932]; and for confusion [03639] they shall rejoice [07442] in their portion [02506]: therefore in their land [0776] they shall possess [03423] the double [04932]: everlasting [05769] joy [08057] shall be unto them.
21 O that one might plead [03198] for a man [01397] with God [0433], as a man [0120] pleadeth for his neighbour [01121] [07453]!
8 Therefore take [03947] unto you now seven [07651] bullocks [06499] and seven [07651] rams [0352], and go [03212] to my servant [05650] Job [0347], and offer up [05927] for yourselves a burnt offering [05930]; and my servant [05650] Job [0347] shall pray [06419] for you: for him [06440] will I accept [05375]: lest I deal [06213] with you after your folly [05039], in that ye have not spoken [01696] of me the thing which is right [03559], like my servant [05650] Job [0347].
