A Commentary, Critical, Practical, and Explanatory on the Old and New Testaments, by Robert Jamieson, A.R. Fausset and David Brown [1882]
secret--rather, "Wast thou a listener in the secret council of God?" The Hebrew means properly the cushions of a divan on which counsellors in the East usually sit. God's servants are admitted to God's secrets (Psa 25:14; Gen 18:17; Joh 15:15).

restrain--Rather, didst thou take away, or borrow, thence (namely, from the divine secret council) thy wisdom? Eliphaz in this (Job 15:8-9) retorts Job's words upon himself (Job 12:2-3; Job 13:2).

2 What ye know [01847], the same do I know [03045] also: I am not inferior [05307] unto you.
2 No doubt [0551] but ye are the people [05971], and wisdom [02451] shall die [04191] with you.
3 But [01571] I have understanding [03824] as well as you; I am not inferior [05307] to you: yea, who knoweth not such things [03644] as these?
8 Hast thou heard [08085] the secret [05475] of God [0433]? and dost thou restrain [01639] wisdom [02451] to thyself?
9 What knowest [03045] thou, that we know [03045] not? what understandest [0995] thou, which is not in us?
15 Henceforth [3765] I call [3004] you [5209] not [3765] servants [1401]; for [3754] the servant [1401] knoweth [1492] not [3756] what [5101] his [846] lord [2962] doeth [4160]: but [1161] I have called [2046] you [5209] friends [5384]; for [3754] all things [3956] that [3739] I have heard [191] of [3844] my [3450] Father [3962] I have made known [1107] unto you [5213].
17 And the LORD [03068] said [0559], Shall I hide [03680] from Abraham [085] that thing which [0834] I do [06213];
14 The secret [05475] of the LORD [03068] is with them that fear [03373] him; and he will shew [03045] them his covenant [01285].
22 Without counsel [05475] purposes [04284] are disappointed [06565]: but in the multitude [07230] of counsellors [03289] they are established [06965].
14 We took sweet [04985] counsel [05475] together [03162], and walked [01980] unto the house [01004] of God [0430] in company [07285].
18 Neither shall the priests [03548] the Levites [03881] want [03772] a man [0376] before [06440] me to offer [05927] burnt offerings [05930], and to kindle [06999] meat offerings [04503], and to do [06213] sacrifice [02077] continually [03117].
7 God [0410] is greatly [07227] to be feared [06206] in the assembly [05475] of the saints [06918], and to be had in reverence [03372] of all them that are about [05439] him.
17 I sat [03427] not in the assembly [05475] of the mockers [07832], nor rejoiced [05937]; I sat [03427] alone [0910] because [06440] of thy hand [03027]: for thou hast filled [04390] me with indignation [02195].
11 Therefore I am full [04392] of the fury [02534] of the LORD [03068]; I am weary [03811] with holding in [03557]: I will pour it out [08210] upon the children [05768] abroad [02351], and upon the assembly [05475] of young men [0970] together [03162]: for even the husband [0376] with the wife [0802] shall be taken [03920], the aged [02205] with him that is full [04390] of days [03117].
