ATHALIAH SLAIN. (Kg2 11:13-16)
Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people--The profound secrecy with which the conspiracy had been conducted rendered the unusual acclamations of the vast assembled crowd the more startling and roused the suspicions of the tyrant.
she came . . . into the temple of the Lord--that is, the courts, which she was permitted to enter by Jehoiada's directions (Kg2 11:8) in order that she might be secured. |
8 And ye shall compass [05362] the king [04428] round about [05439], every man [0376] with his weapons [03627] in his hand [03027]: and he that cometh [0935] within the ranges [07713], let him be slain [04191]: and be ye with the king [04428] as he goeth out [03318] and as he cometh in [0935].
13 And when Athaliah [06271] heard [08085] the noise [06963] of the guard [07323] and of the people [05971], she came [0935] to the people [05971] into the temple [01004] of the LORD [03068].

16 And they laid [07760] hands [03027] on her; and she went [0935] by the way [01870] by the which the horses [05483] came [03996] into the king's [04428] house [01004]: and there was she slain [04191].
