ENVY OF LABAN AND SONS. (Gen. 31:1-21)

he heard the words of Laban's sons--It must have been from rumor that Jacob got knowledge of the invidious reflections cast upon him by his cousins; for they were separated at the distance of three days' journey.

4 And Jacob [03290] sent [07971] and called [07121] Rachel [07354] and Leah [03812] to the field [07704] unto his flock [06629],
5 And said [0559] unto them, I see [07200] your father's [01] countenance [06440], that it is not toward me as [08543] before [08032]; but the God [0430] of my father [01] hath been [01961] with me.
6 And ye [0859] know [03045] that with all my power [03581] I have served [05647] your father [01].
7 And your father [01] hath deceived [02048] me, and changed [02498] my wages [04909] ten [06235] times [04489]; but God [0430] suffered him [05414] not to hurt [07489] me [05978].
8 If he said [0559] thus, The speckled [05348] shall be thy wages [07939]; then all the cattle [06629] bare [03205] speckled [05348]: and if he said [0559] thus, The ringstraked [06124] shall be thy hire [07939]; then bare [03205] all the cattle [06629] ringstraked [06124].
9 Thus God [0430] hath taken away [05337] the cattle [04735] of your father [01], and given [05414] them to me.
10 And it came to pass at the time [06256] that the cattle [06629] conceived [03179], that I lifted up [05375] mine eyes [05869], and saw [07200] in a dream [02472], and, behold, the rams [06260] which leaped [05927] upon the cattle [06629] were ringstraked [06124], speckled [05348], and grisled [01261].
11 And the angel [04397] of God [0430] spake [0559] unto me in a dream [02472], saying, Jacob [03290]: And I said [0559], Here am I.
12 And he said [0559], Lift up [05375] now thine eyes [05869], and see [07200], all the rams [06260] which leap [05927] upon the cattle [06629] are ringstraked [06124], speckled [05348], and grisled [01261]: for I have seen [07200] all that Laban [03837] doeth [06213] unto thee.
13 I am the God [0410] of Bethel [01008], where thou anointedst [04886] the pillar [04676], and where thou vowedst [05087] a vow [05088] unto me: now arise [06965], get thee out [03318] from this land [0776], and return [07725] unto the land [0776] of thy kindred [04138].
2 And Jacob [03290] beheld [07200] the countenance [06440] of Laban [03837], and, behold, it was not toward him as [08543] before [08032].
1 And he heard [08085] the words [01697] of Laban's [03837] sons [01121], saying [0559], Jacob [03290] hath taken away [03947] all that was our father's [01]; and of that which was our father's [01] hath he gotten [06213] all this glory [03519].
