Esau said . . . I am at the point to die--that is, I am running daily risk of my life; and of what use will the birthright be to me: so he despised or cared little about it, in comparison with gratifying his appetite--he threw away his religious privileges for a trifle; and thence he is styled "a profane person" (Heb 12:16; also Job 31:7, Job 31:16; Job 6:13; Phi 3:19). "There was never any meat, except the forbidden fruit, so dear bought, as this broth of Jacob" [BISHOP HALL]. |
19 Whose [3739] end [5056] is destruction [684], whose [3739] God [2316] is their belly [2836], and [2532] whose glory [1391] is in [1722] their [846] shame [152], who [3588] mind [5426] earthly things [1919].)
13 Is not my help [05833] in me? and is wisdom [08454] driven quite [05080] from me?
16 If I have withheld [04513] the poor [01800] from their desire [02656], or have caused the eyes [05869] of the widow [0490] to fail [03615];
7 If my step [0838] hath turned out [05186] of the way [01870], and mine heart [03820] walked [01980] after [0310] mine eyes [05869], and if any blot [03971] hath cleaved [01692] to mine hands [03709];
16 Lest [3361] there be any [5100] fornicator [4205], or [2228] profane person [952], as [5613] Esau [2269], who [3739] for [473] one [3391] morsel of meat [1035] sold [591] his [846] birthright [4415].
