La 2:16 King James All thine enemies have opened their mouth against thee: they hiss and gnash the teeth: they say, We have swallowed her up: certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it.

opened . . . mouth--as ravening, roaring wild beasts (Job 16:9-10; Psa 22:13). Herein Jerusalem was a type of Messiah.

gnash . . . teeth--in vindictive malice.

21 Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me, and said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it.
13 They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.
9 He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.
10 They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.
