Pr 26:27 King James Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.

Rolleth a stone - The illustration refers, probably, to the use made of stones in the rough warfare of an earlier age. Compare Jdg 9:53; Sa2 11:21. The man is supposed to be rolling the stone up to the heights.

53 And a certain woman cast a piece of a millstone upon Abimelech's head, and all to brake his skull.
13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.
17 I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.
27 An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire.
8 He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.
16 His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate.
15 He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made.
