deal truly--or, "faithfully," that is, according to promises (compare Joh 3:21). |
Commentary on the Old Testament, by Carl Friedrich Keil and Franz Delitzsch [1857-78] |
22 Lying lips are an abhorrence to Jahve,
And they that deal truly are His delight.
The frame of the distich is like Pro 11:1, Pro 11:20. אמוּנה is probity as the harmony between the words and the inward thoughts. The lxx, which translates ὁ δὲ ποιῶν πίστεις, had in view עשה אמונים (עשׂה אמוּנים, cf. Isa 26:2); the text of all other translations agrees with that commonly received. |
21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
2 Open ye the gates, that the righteous nation which keepeth the truth may enter in.
20 They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight.
1 A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.
