The exhortation is sustained by the assurance of God's essential rectitude in that providential government which provides perpetual blessings for the good, and perpetual misery for the wicked.

3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
5 Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer.
4 My lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit.
20 For the terrible one is brought to nought, and the scorner is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity are cut off:
28 For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.
