1Ki 8:29 King James That thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which thou hast said, My name shall be there: that thou mayest hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall make toward this place.

The choice of Jerusalem as the place seems to have been made by special revelation to David. See Psa 78:68; Psa 132:13; and compare Ch1 22:1.

Toward this place - Better (here and in Kg1 8:30) than the marginal "in." Wherever they were, the Jews always worshipped toward the temple. (See margin reference.)

30 And hearken thou to the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place: and hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place: and when thou hearest, forgive.
1 Then David said, This is the house of the LORD God, and this is the altar of the burnt offering for Israel.
