A Commentary, Critical, Practical, and Explanatory on the Old and New Testaments, by Robert Jamieson, A.R. Fausset and David Brown [1882]
The allusion to "the horse" (Job 39:18), suggests the description of him. Arab poets delight in praising the horse; yet it is not mentioned in the possessions of Job (Job 1:3; Job 42:12). It seems to have been at the time chiefly used for war, rather than "domestic purposes."

thunder--poetically for, "he with arched neck inspires fear as thunder does." Translate, "majesty" [UMBREIT]. Rather "the trembling, quivering mane," answering to the "vibrating wing" of the ostrich (see on Job 39:13) [MAURER]. "Mane" in Greek also is from a root meaning "fear." English Version is more sublime.

13 "The wings of the ostrich wave proudly; but are they the feathers and plumage of love?
12 So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand female donkeys.
3 His possessions also were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the children of the east.
18 When she lifts up herself on high, she scorns the horse and his rider.
6 She will be visited by the LORD of Hosts with thunder, with earthquake, with great noise, with whirlwind and storm, and with the flame of a devouring fire.
7 At your rebuke they fled. At the voice of your thunder they hurried away.
18 The voice of your thunder was in the whirlwind. The lightnings lit up the world. The earth trembled and shook.
3 The LORD's voice is on the waters. The God of glory thunders, even the LORD on many waters.
13 The LORD also thundered in the sky. The Most High uttered his voice: hailstones and coals of fire.
10 As Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel; but the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day on the Philistines, and confused them; and they were struck down before Israel.
10 Those who strive with the LORD shall be broken to pieces. He will thunder against them in the sky. "The LORD will judge the ends of the earth. He will give strength to his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed."
14 The LORD thundered from heaven. The Most High uttered his voice.
9 Or do you have an arm like God? Can you thunder with a voice like him?
4 After it a voice roars. He thunders with the voice of his majesty. He doesn't hold back anything when his voice is heard.
5 God thunders marvelously with his voice. He does great things, which we can't comprehend.
6 Her rival provoked her severely, to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb.
35 All the inhabitants of the islands are astonished at you, and their kings are horribly afraid; they are troubled in their face.
7 Let the sea roar with its fullness; the world, and those who dwell therein.
11 Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice. Let the sea roar, and its fullness!
19 My anguish, my anguish! I am pained at my very heart; my heart is disquieted in me; I can't hold my peace; because you have heard, O my soul, the sound of the shofar, the alarm of war.
6 Does the shofar alarm sound in a city, without the people being afraid? Does evil happen to a city, and the LORD hasn't done it?
22 Then the woman went to all the people in her wisdom. They cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and threw it out to Joab. He blew the shofar, and they were dispersed from the city, every man to his tent. Joab returned to Jerusalem to the king.
1 There happened to be there a base fellow, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite: and he blew the shofar, and said, "We have no portion in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse. Every man to his tents, Israel!"
28 So Joab blew the shofar; and all the people stood still, and pursued after Israel no more, neither fought they any more.
27 It happened, when he had come, that he blew a shofar in the hill country of Ephraim; and the children of Israel went down with him from the hill country, and he before them.
24 He eats up the ground with fierceness and rage, neither does he stand still at the sound of the shofar.
24 He eats up the ground with fierceness and rage, neither does he stand still at the sound of the shofar.
3 Beside the gates, at the entry of the city, at the entry doors, she cries aloud:
20 Wisdom calls aloud in the street. She utters her voice in the public squares.
23 The quiver rattles against him, the flashing spear and the javelin.
21 He paws in the valley, and rejoices in his strength. He goes out to meet the armed men.
29 From there he spies out the prey. His eyes see it afar off.

23 The quiver rattles against him, the flashing spear and the javelin.
25 As often as the shofar sounds he snorts, 'Aha!' He smells the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
24 He eats up the ground with fierceness and rage, neither does he stand still at the sound of the shofar.
22 He mocks at fear, and is not dismayed, neither does he turn back from the sword.
