A Commentary, Critical, Practical, and Explanatory on the Old and New Testaments, by Robert Jamieson, A.R. Fausset and David Brown [1882]
Be--more forcible than "fall," as UMBREIT translates Gen 1:3.

to the small rain, &c.--He saith, Be on the earth. The shower increasing from "small" to "great," is expressed by the plural "showers" (Margin), following the singular "shower." Winter rain (Sol 2:11).

11 For, lo, the winter [05638] is past [05674], the rain [01653] is over [02498] and gone [01980];
3 And God [0430] said [0559], Let there be [01961] light [0216]: and there was light [0216].
3 And God [0430] said [0559], Let there be [01961] light [0216]: and there was light [0216].
22 Hast thou entered [0935] into the treasures [0214] of the snow [07950]? or hast thou seen [07200] the treasures [0214] of the hail [01259],
32 With clouds [03709] he covereth [03680] the light [0216]; and commandeth [06680] it not to shine by the cloud that cometh betwixt [06293].
30 The waters [04325] are hid [02244] as with a stone [068], and the face [06440] of the deep [08415] is frozen [03920].
16 Even so would he have removed [05496] thee out of the strait [06310] [06862] into a broad place [07338], where [08478] there is no straitness [04164]; and that which should be set [05183] on thy table [07979] should be full [04390] of fatness [01880].
10 Only by pride [02087] cometh [05414] contention [04683]: but with the well advised [03289] is wisdom [02451].
28 And it came to pass, when she travailed [03205], that the one put out [05414] his hand [03027]: and the midwife [03205] took [03947] and bound [07194] upon his hand [03027] a scarlet thread [08144], saying [0559], This came out [03318] first [07223].
15 Then a spirit [07307] passed [02498] before my face [06440]; the hair [08185] of my flesh [01320] stood up [05568]:
32 Canst thou bring forth [03318] Mazzaroth [04216] in his season [06256]? or canst thou guide [05148] Arcturus [05906] with his sons [01121]?
9 Out of the south [02315] cometh [0935] the whirlwind [05492]: and cold [07135] out of the north [04215].
1 The burden [04853] of the word [01697] of the LORD [03068] in the land [0776] of Hadrach [02317], and Damascus [01834] shall be the rest [04496] thereof: when the eyes [05869] of man [0120], as of all the tribes [07626] of Israel [03478], shall be toward the LORD [03068].
9 On the left hand [08040], where he doth work [06213], but I cannot behold [02372] him: he hideth [05848] himself on the right hand [03225], that I cannot see [07200] him:
9 Which maketh [06213] Arcturus [05906], Orion [03685], and Pleiades [03598], and the chambers [02315] of the south [08486].
7 He causeth the vapours [05387] to ascend [05927] from the ends [07097] of the earth [0776]; he maketh [06213] lightnings [01300] for the rain [04306]; he bringeth [03318] the wind [07307] out of his treasuries [0214].
15 Though he be fruitful [06500] among his brethren [0251], an east wind [06921] shall come [0935], the wind [07307] of the LORD [03068] shall come up [05927] from the wilderness [04057], and his spring [04726] shall become dry [0954], and his fountain [04599] shall be dried up [02717]: he shall spoil [08154] the treasure [0214] of all pleasant [02532] vessels [03627].
14 And the LORD [03068] shall be seen [07200] over them, and his arrow [02671] shall go forth [03318] as the lightning [01300]: and the Lord [0136] GOD [03069] shall blow [08628] the trumpet [07782], and shall go [01980] with whirlwinds [05591] of the south [08486].
1 The burden [04853] of the desert [04057] of the sea [03220]. As whirlwinds [05492] in the south [05045] pass [02498] through; so it cometh [0935] from the desert [04057], from a terrible [03372] land [0776].
19 And, behold, there came [0935] a great [01419] wind [07307] from [05676] the wilderness [04057], and smote [05060] the four [0702] corners [06438] of the house [01004], and it fell [05307] upon the young men [05288], and they are dead [04191]; and I only am escaped [04422] alone to tell [05046] thee.
9 Out of the south [02315] cometh [0935] the whirlwind [05492]: and cold [07135] out of the north [04215].
29 Thou hidest [05641] thy face [06440], they are troubled [0926]: thou takest away [0622] their breath [07307], they die [01478], and return [07725] to their dust [06083].
14 If he set [07760] his heart [03820] upon man, if he gather [0622] unto himself his spirit [07307] and his breath [05397];
22 The sun [08121] ariseth [02224], they gather themselves together [0622], and lay them down [07257] in their dens [04585].
8 Then the beasts [02416] go [0935] into [01119] dens [0695], and remain [07931] in their places [04585].
17 That he may withdraw [05493] man [0120] from his purpose [04639], and hide [03680] pride [01466] from man [01397].
19 How much less to him that accepteth [05375] not the persons [06440] of princes [08269], nor regardeth [05234] the rich [07771] more than [06440] the poor [01800]? for they all are the work [04639] of his hands [03027].
16 Then he openeth [01540] the ears [0241] of men [0582], and sealeth [02856] their instruction [04561],
7 He sealeth up [02856] the hand [03027] of every man [0120]; that all men [0582] may know [03045] his work [04639].
1 Ask [07592] ye of the LORD [03068] rain [04306] in the time [06256] of the latter rain [04456]; so the LORD [03068] shall make [06213] bright clouds [02385], and give [05414] them showers [01653] of rain [04306], to every one [0376] grass [06212] in the field [07704].
11 For, lo, the winter [05638] is past [05674], the rain [01653] is over [02498] and gone [01980];
6 For he saith [0559] to the snow [07950], Be thou [01933] on the earth [0776]; likewise to the small [04306] rain [01653], and to the great [04306] rain [01653] of his strength [05797].
6 For he saith [0559] to the snow [07950], Be thou [01933] on the earth [0776]; likewise to the small [04306] rain [01653], and to the great [04306] rain [01653] of his strength [05797].
6 For he saith [0559] to the snow [07950], Be thou [01933] on the earth [0776]; likewise to the small [04306] rain [01653], and to the great [04306] rain [01653] of his strength [05797].
13 They mar [05420] my path [05410], they set forward [03276] my calamity [01942] [01962], they have no helper [05826].
2 Oh that [03863] my grief [03708] were throughly [08254] weighed [08254], and my calamity [01942] [01962] laid [05375] in the balances [03976] together [03162]!
6 For he saith [0559] to the snow [07950], Be thou [01933] on the earth [0776]; likewise to the small [04306] rain [01653], and to the great [04306] rain [01653] of his strength [05797].
15 But now, because it is not so, he hath visited [06485] in his anger [0639]; yet he knoweth [03045] it not in great [03966] extremity [06580]:
36 My desire [015] [01] is that Job [0347] may be tried [0974] unto the end [05331] because of his answers [08666] for wicked [0205] men [0582].
