Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against [05922] Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king in this sort :

This is the copy of the letter that they sent unto him [05922], even unto Artaxerxes the king; Thy servants the men on this side the river, and at such a time.

Be it known unto the king, that the Jews which came up from thee to us [05922] are come unto Jerusalem, building the rebellious and the bad city, and have set up the walls thereof, and joined the foundations.

Now because we have maintenance from the king's palace, and it was not meet for us to see the king's dishonour, therefore [05922] have we sent and certified the king;

That search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers : so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time : for [05922] which cause was this city destroyed.

There have been mighty kings also over [05922] Jerusalem, which have ruled over all countries beyond the river; and toll, tribute, and custom, was paid unto them.

Now when the copy of king Artaxerxes ' letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem unto [05922] the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.

But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but for their sakes that [05922] shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart.

And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over [05922] him;

Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him [05922].

Then was the king exceeding glad for him [05922], and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.

And of [05922] the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows.

Hitherto is the end of the matter. As for me Daniel, my cogitations much troubled me, and my countenance changed in me [05922]: but I kept the matter in my heart.
