Summary Of Commentaries Associated With The Selected Verse
Notes on the Bible, by Albert Barnes, [1834] |
The only other "Ahimaaz" mentioned in Scripture was the son of Zadok the priest. The word "Ahi" (brother) is frequently found in composition in names in the High Priest's family, e. g. in Ahijah, Ahimelech. It is not improbable that Ahimaaz may have been of this family, as marriages between the reval and priestly houses were not unusual Kg2 11:2; Ch2 22:11, and perhaps it may have been owing to such a connection that Ahijah was brought into prominence by Saul. If there be any truth in the above supposition, it would be an indication that Saul was not married until after his election to the throne. |
11 But Jehoshabeath [03090], the daughter [01323] of the king [04428], took [03947] Joash [03101] the son [01121] of Ahaziah [0274], and stole [01589] him from among [08432] the king's [04428] sons [01121] that were slain [04191], and put [05414] him and his nurse [03243] in a bedchamber [02315] [04296]. So Jehoshabeath [03090], the daughter [01323] of king [04428] Jehoram [03088], the wife [0802] of Jehoiada [03077] the priest [03548], (for she was the sister [0269] of Ahaziah [0274],) hid [05641] him from [06440] Athaliah [06271], so that she slew [04191] him not.
2 But Jehosheba [03089], the daughter [01323] of king [04428] Joram [03141], sister [0269] of Ahaziah [0274], took [03947] Joash [03101] the son [01121] of Ahaziah [0274], and stole [01589] him from among [08432] the king's [04428] sons [01121] which were slain [04191]; and they hid [05641] him, even him and his nurse [03243], in the bedchamber [02315] [04296] from [06440] Athaliah [06271], so that he was not slain [04191].
