A Commentary, Critical, Practical, and Explanatory on the Old and New Testaments, by Robert Jamieson, A.R. Fausset and David Brown [1882]
So when even was come--that is, the reckoning time between masters and laborers (see Deu 24:15); pointing to the day of final account.

the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward--answering to Christ Himself, represented "as a Son over His own house" (Heb 3:6; see Mat 11:27; Joh 3:35; Joh 5:27).

Call the labourers and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first--Remarkable direction this--last hired, first paid.

6 But [1161] Christ [5547] as [5613] a son [5207] over [1909] his own [846] house [3624]; whose [3739] house [3624] are [2070] we [2249], if [1437] [4007] we hold fast [2722] the confidence [3954] and [2532] the rejoicing [2745] of the hope [1680] firm [949] unto [3360] the end [5056].
15 At his day [03117] thou shalt give [05414] him his hire [07939], neither shall the sun [08121] go down [0935] upon it; for he is poor [06041], and setteth [05375] his heart [05315] upon it: lest he cry [07121] against thee unto the LORD [03068], and it be sin [02399] unto thee.
