Summary Of Commentaries Associated With The Selected Verse
Notes on the Bible, by Albert Barnes, [1834] |
I came near unto one of them that stood by - That is, to one of the angels who appeared to stand near the throne. Dan 7:10. Compare Dan 8:13; Zac 4:4-5; Rev 7:13. It was natural for Daniel to suppose that the angels who were seen encircling the throne would be able to give him information on the subject, and the answers which Daniel received show that he was not mistaken in his expectation. God has often employed angels to communicate important truths to men, or has made them the medium of communicating his will. Compare Rev 1:1; Act 7:53; Heb 2:2.
So he told me, and made me know the interpretation of the things - He explained the meaning of the symbols, so that Daniel understood them. It would seem probable that Daniel has not recorded all that the angel communicated respecting the vision, but he has preserved so much that we may understand its general signification. |
Explanatory Notes on the Whole Bible, by John Wesley [1754-65] |
Unto one - That is, to an angel, that ministered. The truth - The true meaning of this vision. |

53 Who [3748] have received [2983] the law [3551] by [1519] the disposition [1296] of angels [32], and [2532] have [5442] not [3756] kept [5442] it.

5 Then the angel [04397] that talked [01696] with me answered [06030] and said [0559] unto me, Knowest [03045] thou not what these be? And I said [0559], No, my lord [0113].
13 Then I heard [08085] one [0259] saint [06918] speaking [01696], and another [0259] saint [06918] said [0559] unto that certain [06422] saint which spake [01696], How long shall be the vision [02377] concerning the daily [08548] sacrifice, and the transgression [06588] of desolation [08074], to give [05414] both the sanctuary [06944] and the host [06635] to be trodden under foot [04823]?
