acknowledge--regard with favor, like as thou lookest on the good figs favorably.
for their good--Their removal to Babylon saved them from the calamities which befell the rest of the nation and led them to repentance there: so God bettered their condition (Kg2 25:27-30). Daniel and Ezekiel were among these captives. |
Explanatory Notes on the Whole Bible, by John Wesley [1754-65] |
Acknowledge - I will acknowledge them for their good; I will shew them favour, being of the number of those who were not leaders to sin, but led away by the ill example of others, and who being carried away grew sensible of their sins, and so accepted of the punishment of their iniquities. |
Adam Clarke Commentary on the Whole Bible - Published 1810-1826 |
Like these good figs, so will I acknowledge - Those already carried away into captivity, I esteem as far more excellent than those who still remain in the land. They have not sinned so deeply, and they are now penitent; and, therefore, I will set mine eyes upon them for good, Jer 24:6. I will watch over them by an especial providence, and they shall be restored to their own land. |
27 And it came to pass in the seven [07651] and thirtieth [07970] year [08141] of the captivity [01546] of Jehoiachin [03078] king [04428] of Judah [03063], in the twelfth [08147] [06240] month [02320], on the seven [07651] and twentieth [06242] day of the month [02320], that Evilmerodach [0192] king [04428] of Babylon [0894] in the year [08141] that he began to reign [04427] did lift up [05375] the head [07218] of Jehoiachin [03078] king [04428] of Judah [03063] out of prison [01004] [03608];
28 And he spake [01696] kindly [02896] to him, and set [05414] his throne [03678] above the throne [03678] of the kings [04428] that were with him in Babylon [0894];
29 And changed [08132] his prison [03608] garments [0899]: and he did eat [0398] bread [03899] continually [08548] before [06440] him all the days [03117] of his life [02416].
30 And his allowance [0737] was a continual [08548] allowance [0737] given [05414] him of the king [04428], a daily [03117] [03117] rate [01697] for every day [03117], all the days [03117] of his life [02416].
6 For I will set [07760] mine eyes [05869] upon them for good [02896], and I will bring them again [07725] to this land [0776]: and I will build [01129] them, and not pull them down [02040]; and I will plant [05193] them, and not pluck them up [05428].
