God's very "word" is "power." So the gospel word (Rom 1:16; Heb 4:12).
who may say, &c.-- (Job 9:12; Job 33:13; Isa 45:9; Dan 4:35). Scripture does not ascribe such arbitrary power to earthly kings. |
35 And all [03606] the inhabitants [01753] of the earth [0772] are reputed [02804] as nothing [03809]: and he doeth [05648] according to his will [06634] in the army [02429] of heaven [08065], and among the inhabitants [01753] of the earth [0772]: and none [03809] can [0383] stay [04223] his hand [03028], or say [0560] unto him, What [04101] doest [05648] thou?
9 Woe [01945] unto him that striveth [07378] with his Maker [03335] ! Let the potsherd [02789] strive with the potsherds [02789] of the earth [0127]. Shall the clay [02563] say [0559] to him that fashioneth [03335] it, What makest [06213] thou? or thy work [06467], He hath no hands [03027]?
13 Why dost thou strive [07378] against him? for he giveth not account [06030] of any of his matters [01697].
12 Behold, he taketh away [02862], who can hinder [07725] him? who will say [0559] unto him, What doest [06213] thou?
12 For [1063] the word [3056] of God [2316] is quick [2198], and [2532] powerful [1756], and [2532] sharper [5114] than [5228] any [3956] twoedged [1366] sword [3162], piercing [1338] even to [891] the dividing asunder [3311] of soul [5590] and [5037] [2532] spirit [4151], and [5037] [2532] of the joints [719] and [2532] marrow [3452], and [2532] is a discerner [2924] of the thoughts [1761] and [2532] intents [1771] of the heart [2588].
16 For [1063] I am [1870] not [3756] ashamed [1870] of the gospel [2098] of Christ [5547]: for [1063] it is [2076] the power [1411] of God [2316] unto [1519] salvation [4991] to every one [3956] that believeth [4100]; to the Jew [2453] first [4412], and [5037] also [2532] to the Greek [1672].
