Summary Of Commentaries Associated With The Selected Verse
A Commentary, Critical, Practical, and Explanatory on the Old and New Testaments, by Robert Jamieson, A.R. Fausset and David Brown [1882] |
Moses was fourscore years old--This advanced age was a pledge that they had not been readily betrayed into a rash or hazardous enterprise, and that under its attendant infirmities they could not have carried through the work on which they were entering had they not been supported by a divine hand. |
Explanatory Notes on the Whole Bible, by John Wesley [1754-65] |
Moses was fourscore years old - Joseph, who was to be only a servant to Pharaoh, was preferred at thirty years old; but Moses, who was to be a god to Pharaoh, was not so dignified till he was eighty years old. It is fit he should long wait for such an honour, and be long in preparing for such a service. |
Adam Clarke Commentary on the Whole Bible - Published 1810-1826 |
Moses was fourscore years old - He was forty years old when he went to Midian, and he had tarried forty years in Midian; (see Exo 2:11, and Act 7:30); and from this verse it appears that Aaron was three years older than Moses. We have already seen that Miriam their sister was older than either, Exo 2:4. |

30 And [2532] when forty [5062] years [2094] were expired [4137], there appeared [3700] to him [846] in [1722] the wilderness [2048] of mount [3735] Sina [4614] an angel [32] of the Lord [2962] in [1722] a flame [5395] of fire [4442] in a bush [942].
11 And it came to pass in those days [03117], when Moses [04872] was grown [01431], that he went out [03318] unto his brethren [0251], and looked [07200] on their burdens [05450]: and he spied [07200] an Egyptian [04713] [0376] smiting [05221] an Hebrew [05680], one of his brethren [0251].
