A Commentary, Critical, Practical, and Explanatory on the Old and New Testaments, by Robert Jamieson, A.R. Fausset and David Brown [1882]
Paul (Co1 3:19) quoted this clause with the formula establishing its inspiration, "it is written." He cites the exact Hebrew words, not as he usually does the Septuagint, Greek version (Psa 9:15). Haman was hanged on the gallows he prepared for Mordecai (Est 5:14; Est 7:10).

10 So they hanged [08518] Haman [02001] on the gallows [06086] that he had prepared [03559] for Mordecai [04782]. Then was the king's [04428] wrath [02534] pacified [07918].
14 Then said [0559] Zeresh [02238] his wife [0802] and all his friends [0157] unto him, Let a gallows [06086] be made [06213] of fifty [02572] cubits [0520] high [01364], and to morrow [01242] speak [0559] thou unto the king [04428] that Mordecai [04782] may be hanged [08518] thereon: then go [0935] thou in merrily [08056] with the king [04428] unto the banquet [04960]. And the thing [01697] pleased [03190] [06440] Haman [02001]; and he caused [06213] the gallows [06086] to be made [06213].
15 The heathen [01471] are sunk down [02883] in the pit [07845] that they made [06213]: in the net [07568] which [02098] they hid [02934] is their own foot [07272] taken [03920].
19 For [1063] the wisdom [4678] of this [5127] world [2889] is [2076] foolishness [3472] with [3844] God [2316]. For [1063] it is written [1125], He taketh [1405] the wise [4680] in [1722] their own [846] craftiness [3834].
15 Their sword [02719] shall enter [0935] into their own heart [03820], and their bows [07198] shall be broken [07665].
8 Let destruction [07722] come [0935] upon him at unawares [03045] [03808]; and let his net [07568] that he hath hid [02934] catch [03920] himself: into that very destruction [07722] let him fall [05307].
15 The heathen [01471] are sunk down [02883] in the pit [07845] that they made [06213]: in the net [07568] which [02098] they hid [02934] is their own foot [07272] taken [03920].
15 He made [03738] a pit [0953], and digged [02658] it, and is fallen [05307] into the ditch [07845] which he made [06466].
19 For [1063] the wisdom [4678] of this [5127] world [2889] is [2076] foolishness [3472] with [3844] God [2316]. For [1063] it is written [1125], He taketh [1405] the wise [4680] in [1722] their own [846] craftiness [3834].
