Summary Of Commentaries Associated With The Selected Verse
Notes on the Bible, by Albert Barnes, [1834] |
Joash of Judah reigned forty years Kg2 12:1, and Joash of Israel ascended the throne in his namesake's thirty-seventh year Kg2 13:10; hence, we should have expected to hear that Amaziah succeeded his father in the fourth rather than in the second year of Joash (of Israel). The usual explanation of the discrepancy is to suppose a double accession of the Israelite Joash - as co-partner with his father in the thirty-seventh year of his namesake, as sole king two years afterward. |
10 In the thirty [07970] [08141] and seventh [07651] year [08141] of Joash [03101] king [04428] of Judah [03063] began Jehoash [03060] the son [01121] of Jehoahaz [03059] to reign [04427] over Israel [03478] in Samaria [08111], and reigned sixteen [08337] [06240] years [08141].
1 In the seventh [07651] year [08141] of Jehu [03058] Jehoash [03060] began to reign [04427]; and forty [0705] years [08141] reigned [04427] he in Jerusalem [03389]. And his mother's [0517] name [08034] was Zibiah [06645] of Beersheba [0884].
