the Lord had respect unto Abel, not unto Cain, &c.--The words, "had respect to," signify in Hebrew,--"to look at any thing with a keen earnest glance," which has been translated, "kindle into a fire," so that the divine approval of Abel's offering was shown in its being consumed by fire (see Gen 15:17; Jdg 13:20).

20 For it came to pass, when the flame [03851] went up [05927] toward heaven [08064] from off the altar [04196], that the angel [04397] of the LORD [03068] ascended [05927] in the flame [03851] of the altar [04196]. And Manoah [04495] and his wife [0802] looked on [07200] it, and fell on [05307] their faces [06440] to the ground [0776].
17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun [08121] went down [0935], and it was dark [05939], behold a smoking [06227] furnace [08574], and a burning [0784] lamp [03940] that passed [05674] between [0996] those pieces [01506].
4 By faith [4102] Abel [6] offered [4374] unto God [2316] a more excellent [4119] sacrifice [2378] than [3844] Cain [2535], by [1223] which [3739] he obtained witness [3140] that he was [1511] righteous [1342], God [2316] testifying [3140] of [1909] his [846] gifts [1435]: and [2532] by [1223] it [846] he being dead [599] yet [2089] speaketh [2980] [2980].
22 And [2532] almost [4975] all things [3956] are [2511] by [2596] the law [3551] purged [2511] with [1722] blood [129]; and [2532] without [5565] shedding of blood [130] is [1096] no [3756] remission [859].
54 But how [4459] then [3767] shall the scriptures [1124] be fulfilled [4137], that [3754] thus [3779] it must [1163] be [1096]?
53 [2228] Thinkest thou [1380] that [3754] I cannot [3756] [1410] now [737] pray [3870] to my [3450] Father [3962], and [2532] he shall presently give [3936] me [3427] more [4119] than [2228] twelve [1427] legions [3003] of angels [32]?
9 Then [1161] he questioned [1905] with him [846] in [1722] many [2425] words [3056]; but [1161] he [846] answered [611] him [846] nothing [3762].
7 He was oppressed [05065], and he was afflicted [06031], yet he opened [06605] not his mouth [06310]: he is brought [02986] as a lamb [07716] to the slaughter [02874], and as a sheep [07353] before [06440] her shearers [01494] is dumb [0481], so he openeth [06605] not his mouth [06310].
29 The next day [1887] John [2491] seeth [991] Jesus [2424] coming [2064] unto [4314] him [846], and [2532] saith [3004], Behold [2396] the Lamb [286] of God [2316], which [3588] taketh away [142] the sin [266] of the world [2889].
35 That [3704] upon [1909] you [5209] may come [2064] all [3956] the righteous [1342] blood [129] shed [1632] upon [1909] the earth [1093], from [575] the blood [129] of righteous [1342] Abel [6] unto [2193] the blood [129] of Zacharias [2197] son [5207] of Barachias [914], whom [3739] ye slew [5407] between [3342] the temple [3485] and [2532] the altar [2379].
7 If [0518] thou doest well [03190], shalt thou not be accepted [07613]? and if thou doest not well [03190], sin [02403] lieth [07257] at the door [06607]. And unto thee shall be his desire [08669], and thou shalt rule [04910] over him.
