2Pe 3:7 King James But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

which are now--"the postdiluvian visible world." In contrast to "that then was," Pe2 3:6.

the same--Other oldest manuscripts read, "His" (God's).

kept in store--Greek, "treasured up."

reserved--"kept." It is only God's constantly watchful providence which holds together the present state of things till His time for ending it.

6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
5 As for the earth, out of it cometh bread: and under it is turned up as it were fire.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
