white--in token of joy (Isa 61:3). Solomon was clad in white (JOSEPHUS, Antiquities, 8:7,3); hence his attire is compared to the "lilies" (Mat 6:29), typical of the spotless righteousness of Jesus Christ, which the redeemed shall wear (Rev 3:18; Rev 7:14).

ointment-- (Psa 23:5), opposed to a gloomy exterior (Sa2 14:2; Psa 45:7; Mat 6:17); typical, also (Ecc 7:1; Sol 1:3).

3 Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.
1 A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth.
17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
7 Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
2 And Joab sent to Tekoah, and fetched thence a wise woman, and said unto her, I pray thee, feign thyself to be a mourner, and put on now mourning apparel, and anoint not thyself with oil, but be as a woman that had a long time mourned for the dead:
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
