Ex 22:31 King James And ye shall be holy men unto me: neither shall ye eat any flesh that is torn of beasts in the field; ye shall cast it to the dogs.

The sanctification of the nation was emphatically symbolized by strictness of diet as regards both the kind of animal, and the mode of slaughtering. See Lev. 11; 17.

15 And every soul that eateth that which died of itself, or that which was torn with beasts, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger, he shall both wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even: then shall he be clean.
5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:
4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.
